Blogging For Business

Blogs (web logs) have taken websites into the new era of publishing information. When I first started developing websites, the web was very similar to traditional print media. You put up a website with information for people to read. That was it; it was a one way communication avenue.

Today, the web is a social environment and blogging is a big part of that.

Blogs were once viewed as outlets for people with an ax to grind or someone with too much time on their hands. Now anyone who is anyone in business has a blog because blogging can change and improve your business by allowing you to connect with your customers and provide support for them. It is also the fastest way to show off your expertise in your field or highlight a new product or service your company has to offer. One of the best examples of a business blog is by GoDaddy.com founder, Bob Parsons. Bob always keeps his blog fresh, real and up to date.

To get the most of blogging, keep it brief and informal – and real. Avoid cheesy sales pitches and write as though you are telling your best friend or family member about your business. Join in on the conversation on other blogs as well. And when you do, makes sure to follow their rules and add a link back to your site if they permit. Adding new blog entries to your site will help keep your site content fresh – and search engines like fresh content. Once your site is in the search engine databases, your new blog entry could appear in the results as fast as the next day! That’s making an impact that is not easily available through any other type of media.
